Side looking radar operating at decimeter wavelengths and measuring the angle at which the radiation is emitted and returned. Most side looking radar operates at millimeter wavelengths. Such radiation is scattered by vegetation and does not reach the ground if the vegetation is dense, and the radar sees only the top of a densely forested region. Radar operating at decimeter wavelengths is able to see through the vegetation to the ground.
