Industry:Earth science
That angle at which a ray incident upon a surface is completely polarized upon reflection. It is given by arct n (n s / n i), where n i is the index of refraction of the medium on the side at which the ray is incident and n s is the index of refraction of the medium on the other side.
Industry:Earth science
(1) Localized overexposure caused by radiant energy coming in at a level which exceeds the tolerance of the emulsion and thereby causing the image to lack definition. (2) A process for increasing the amount of light transmitted by a lens by coating the lens with anti reflective coating.

The intervals of time between coincidence (in the same direction) of the position of a freely swinging pendulum and a clock pendulum are measured, usually at the point of lowest descent. The period of the freely swinging pendulum is then m Pc/n, where m Pc is the length of the interval (2mPc if coincidences in the opposite direction are measured also) and n is the number of swings of the freely swinging pendulum.
Industry:Earth science
A combination of light of different chromaticities. i.e., a single color produced by mixing lights of different colors.
Industry:Earth science
The process of applying the term 2Ngo/r (Bruns term) to a calculated value go of gravity on the geoid, to reduce gravity to the ellipsoid at a distance N below the geoid; r is a suitable radius of the Earth. It amounts to about 0. 031 cm/s².
Industry:Earth science
A development in which related housing-units are grouped or clustered with common, open space surrounding each group, such open space serving as a buffer between groups or used for common recreation, walks, pathways for bicycles or other such informal activity.
Industry:Earth science
A projecting beam or overhanging portion of a structure, supported at one end only.
Industry:Earth science
A camera so mounted that its optical axis can be kept pointed in the direction of an artificial satellite. The Baker Nunn camera, for example, is a satellite tracking camera.
