Nastajanje krvnih ugrušaka u krvožilnom sustavu. Može nastati iz oštećene stijenke vene kod varikoziteta, iz okolnog arteriosklerotskog plaka ili kao posljdica traume ili operativnog zahvata. Mogućnost nstanka raste s gušćom krvlju, starenjem, debljinom i kod onih nekad fizički aktivnih koji sad većinom miruju.
