antidijabetik
Antidijabetici su sredstva za liječenje šećerne bolesti. Oralni su antidijabetici djelotvorni samo ako je bar djelomično sačuvano inzularno tkivo gušterače; daju se u dijabetesa neovisnom o inzulinu (tip II): derivati sulfonilureje. Inzulin, hormon gušterače, daje se u dijabetesa ovisnog o inzulinu (tip I); rabi se kristalinični (brza djelovanja) ili vezan za bazičnu bjelančevinu (s produženim učinkom). Inzulin razgrađuju probavni fermenti pa se mora davati putem potkožnih injekcija. Inhibitori alfaglukozidaze smanjuju apsorpciju ugljikohidrata u tankom crijevu. Uz medikamentno liječenje ne smije se zanemariti dijetalna prehrana i fizička aktivnost.
